BCA Board Votes to Move Toward USOC Recognition
Colorado Springs, CO - Providing leadership to the
billiard industry and growing cue sports worldwide are two major goals of the
Billiard Congress of America (BCA). At a recent BCA Board of Directors meeting,
an important vote was cast that will move cue sports one step closer to Olympic
participation. The Board will propose to the BCA members that they ratify a list
of by-laws changes that includes increasing the size of the board from 18 to 20
positions, with four of the positions reserved for U.S. citizens meeting the Player
definition of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
By achieving 20% player representation on the board and all committees that affect
players, the BCA will be able to proceed with the application process for USOC
recognition as an Affiliated Sport Organization. Once this recognition is secured,
the BCA will work with other cue sport organizations throughout the world to have
cue sports included in the Pan American or Olympic Games.
BCA Voting & Associate members will receive a ballot in May that will include
the proposed by-laws changes as well as a slate of nominees to fill four Voting
board positions. Ballots are to be cast at the Annual General Membership Meeting
on July 24, 2002 in New Orleans, LA during the BCA International Trade Expo (July
24-27, 2002).
